Probably because the fandom tends to be younger and being super critical of the problematic elements is what tumblr-era fandom grew up with.

Also with all the brony bashing a few years back especially in regards to the porn, a lot of fandoms are going too far in the opposite direction.

That fandom was like a shooting star, it was burning bright and intensely for a short amount of time and then it just disappeared. I remember seeing it all over my dash and I was more amused than annoyed, lol.

There's no canon child character but I read in that fandom occasionally and I've noticed quite a few fics where [it says in the blurb] either Sherlock or John have been de-aged and portrayed to be either 16 (the legal age of consent in the UK but younger than the legal age of consent in other countries, which may be contributing to the squick factor for some) or younger. Sometimes both are de-aged (i.e. AU's like High School fic) but usually it's just one of them whilst the main pairing remains Sherlock/John (if that makes sense?).
