Okay, not necessarily anti-smut, but anti-kink, yes. I see a whole lot more wank about thinks like dubcon or noncon since the tumblr days. It basically started out as demanding trigger warnings, and now even that is not enough.

Okay, not necessarily anti-smut, but anti-kink, yes.

You can have your smut, just no moaning, no tongue-kissing, no thrusting, no movement whatsoever. Missionary and under the covers.

Basically. And don't you dare portray women the wrong way, or write anything that could be triggering to anyone.

Never mind that there is no universally agreed upon definition of portraying women the "right" way, so no matter what you write, no matter how feminist it is, no matter how well-rounded the characters are, there is always going to be someone telling you that you're doing it wrong and deserve XYZ horrible thing to happen to you. it's bitterly ironic how those people will talk about things like GamerGate and the systematic harassment of women and how abusive threats are not okay (which they aren't!), but then turn around and send similarly horrific threats to (usually) women writers because they did or wrote something "problematic." I cannot abide hypocrisy, and that is precisely what this is. All I can hope is that someday these people grow up and realize what complete and utter assholes they've been.

Yep! Heaven help you if you kink on femsub.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-02 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
And with the lights off, don't you dare to forget that part.

Oh, thank you nonny. How could I be so monosexist as to forget?

This has definitely been my experience. And it's going hand-in-hand with what seems to be a broader anti-kink mindset.

I almost think that things just got a little too permissive, and went a little too far in the non-critical direction, and as a result, the pendulum's swinging too far in the opposite direction. Hopefully, there'll be a correction that pushes things toward the middle soon (and damn, do I really hope so, because I'm stating to get a little tired of being told I must be mentally ill by other feminists).

Or getting doxxed, online stalked, having people trying to get you fired...

Don't forget swatting!

But yeah, all of that stuff's really gotta stop. It's awful. :-/

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
At least with SWATTING it serves a wider social good by demonstrating just how much of a military overreaction police forces have in response to any threat. GGers might actually be reeling the cops in by exposing nice middle class families to the antics the police usually only reserve for poor black neighborhoods. No matter what the report is, the first response should not be a swat team, and thanks to SWATTING they are starting to reel that shit back in again and have officers visually assess areas before rolling the ARVs.

Those are my thoughts exactly. I'm all for analysing the tropes that I used in kink (and as a survivor, I really, really need a warning for non-con), but people seem to be taking it too far.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
yes. one of my fave spn authors gets a lot of abuse for their works, and they are so well tagged :-( it makes me sad because the whole point of tags is so you can read what you want and not read what you don't want

I've seen anti-noncon and dubcon wank resurface recently. Luckily we have mods in our little fandom corner (we're not tumblr based thank god) and shit-stirring high horse moral crusaders get short shrift.

As for the "dubcon is the same as rape" crew, for some reason that annoys me the most because it's so ill-informed. If there's one thing about fandom I appreciate, it's that writers and artists are courteous enough to warn about the kinds of uncomfortable sex scenes that wouldn't have a chance of being brought to court on a rape charge, but that happen all the time in real life.
