I think this is just one branch of the recent "we need to talk about..." phenomena in fandom. I don't think it has anything specifically to do with smut, it's just that there's a lot of smut in fandom and therefore smut is one of the things about which people keep posting concern-trolling meta essays with titles along the lines of "We Need to Talk About ____" or "Lets Talk about _____" or "Why isn't anyone talking about _____?"
