ayrt

Did I say "issues like civil disobedience, tension between cops/community/local gangs, etc. isn't in their ballpark"?

No, funnily enough, I did not.

I meant that this is not the way The Wire portrays these issues. Too clean-cut. The Wire's main thrust is about illuminating and describing the horrifying way many different interlocking bad policies and entrenched interests conflate together to cause far more damage than any one policy or force could ever foresee, and the way there is no way to disentangle them.

Gangs deciding to conspire to take out cops out of moral outrage is not the type of thing that would be the main plot of a season.

Of course. I don't think anyone suggested it'd be the totality of the plot for The Wire, just one aspect of it. Obviously it'd be more complex and multi layered.

Well also, the gangs wouldn't collaborate out of moral outrage. It would be a whole other thing with moral outrage as some kind of cover or something.

Exactly. The whole idea of gangs behaving like some modern day Robin Hood and his gang of merry men would be one of the lies that unravel. Sure, that might be the surface story, but it'd be more like a mixture of some people taking advantage of the situation, others who are angry about being used by the media and politicians, yet others who just want to get on with business/life, etc. Exploding superficial stories and soundbytes is something The Wire does very well.
