I stopped trying after realizing that if infinite alternate dimensions really existed, then I could just think of a dimension where the alternate!me possesses the power to instantly materialize before all alt!mes at exactly this moment. And seeing as I'm currently alone in the room and there's no alt!me in sight, that universe simply does not exist. And if that universe doens't exist, then most others I can think of probably don't either.

Someone once explained to me that the deal with infinite dimensions is like the infinite numbers in math: there's infinite numbers between one and two, but none of those will be three.

Well, the now-discredited superstring theory had a whole bit on how infinite dimensions must, by necessity (for the discredited theory to work) not ever have any contact with each other.

And what does the standard model have to say about alternate dimensions? Hawking recently made a joke about discovering a dimension where that kid from One Direction never left.

I thought the Standard Model was, "No extra dimensions for you!" No?

I have no idea. My knowledge of physics is restricted to funny youtube videos.

LOL well mine is restricted to the Isaac Asimov books from the 1950s, and Brian Greene's, which are basically now not worth the paper they're written on.

This reminds of the logic I used when I was younger to convince myself that I would never experience amnesia.
