Craft thread

[personal profile] othellia 2015-05-03 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Since spring TV season is in swing and I've got nothing to do with my hands as I watch, I've decided to start a new cross stitch project. Going to be using this picture of Elsa as my base. 100x150 stitches = 15000 stitches lord help me.

Anyone else doing anything fun?

I haven't in a while, but I made collage cards a lot, the past couple years! Those were tons of fun. And me and Rogan are designing and drawing a tarot deck, but it's on the backburner right now.

I also used to make articulated paper dolls out of scrap cardboard and fabric! :D I liked doing that too. But lately, we're mostly doing comics, comics, and writing, so no crafts recently.

Ooh, I love tarot decks.

And similar things with me re: writing a lot so no crafts. This will be my first one in 9+ months (cosplay excluded).

So do I! @_@ After I finish designing my own, I doubt I'll have much use for any other! I'll be so excited when it's done!

Not anything crafty, no, but I wanted to say that this art is GORGEOUS and I'd love to see the finished project when you're done! You should def post it.

Sometimes I want to get back into drawing, but I've been out of practice for so many years that I think, "Do you have any idea how much effort you would have to put into this to get anywhere near half decent again?" lol. Then I don't.

I know right?! Took me the better part of the morning to find one I really liked that would translate well + had a matching Anna as a stretch goal. For awhile I was doing actually pixel art (old school pokemon, SNES games) to cross stitch, but I found it's a lot more fun/pretty to take fully colored fanart and just shrink it down/reduce to 40 colors. Unfortunately you never quite get the full amount of original detail/prettiness but whatever.

Final results will look something like this (hopefully). And if I finish, I definitely will post:

And drawing is good. I've only ever doodled, so I'm awesome at black & white heads and that's about it.

Oh wow, that's still lovely and I adore the matching Anna. These are going to look great! (I have a friend who would be incredibly jealous!) You might lose some of the detail, but there's still quite a bit and they look quite complicated. It should be a challenge, I would think.

Those look really nice for only having 40 colors! :D I usually use a program to convert art to patterns and I would've set a maximum of 100 colors for those pictures, based on complexity. They're going to look great!

Not fun crafty but necessity crafty: The state of the last remaining dishcloth is unspeakable. I think someone in the house cleaned up an Elder God's vomit with it last.... (No, it's coffee stained and falling apart, but yeeeeeeccccccccch.)

:0

Are you going to make a new one or repair that one?

Make. I use regular cotton yarn, no fancy colours. Brown, usually, to hide the stains. Simple to knit: just plain stitched squares. I don't know how to do the fancy borders. I don't bother with those anyway, since the cloths usually only last a couple months each. They clean the gunk off any dish better than steel wool!

I'm doing a WAY WAY simpler cross stitch for my sister and her fiance as a wedding present. It says "Mr and Mrs Lastname" atm and I'm going to add their first initials in large fancy "font", one on either side, and then an inner border of small hearts and an outer border of flowering vines with the month and day in the center at top and the year in the center at bottom. It's all in green, yellow, and purple with a few bits of white to spark it up a bit.

Awww that sounds cute.

And tbh, simpler the cross stitch, the more likely it is to finish.

I haven't done much knitting or crocheting for a while but I'm finally getting back into it since going back to this scarf. (Warning, pdf)

Scarfs are the best. I would make more scarves, but I already have about 8+ crocheted/knitted scarfs.

That pattern looks super fun.

I don't think I can ever have too many.

I'm currently most of the way through this shawl: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/monicas-shawl

I'm doing it in a duck-egg green laceweight alpaca. I've also made some progress on my Fullmetal Alchemist ponies and am getting ready to airbrush the base grey for Ed's automail.

Oooh, did you use PC Stitch to make the pattern? That looks like quite a few colors to try and match to DMC's floss.

Been drawing like crazy, which is awesome for me as I've had an art block for the better part of a year and a half.
