I try to reply to most reviews/comments I get, if I don't it's because I missed it or there's something about the comment that I don't want to respond to.

As a reader I don't expect a reply to my comment at all, if they do then that's nice of them but I don't think it's a necessity.

I have a lot of trouble with this. I always feel like I should respond, but I've gotten some very ... odd comments on occasion that make me struggle with that a lot. Some of them I can just ignore the weird bits if I don't want to get into, just respond to the rest of the comment instead, but others are pretty weird all the way through. For a couple of them, even a bland 'thanks, I'm glad you liked' wasn't safe, because it implied an agreement on my part with some very strange interpretations on theirs.

It's not even that they're flames or anything. Those are easy, I just go 'I'm sorry the story didn't work for you' and call it done. It's the ones that read very strange philosophies/meta into the stories, or presume that writing such a pairing means I automatically hold such-an-opinion, that I have the most trouble with.
