ehhhhhh.

The only girl I remember is Leah (was there another? I feel like maybe there was one more?) and she was super annoying. She was also very clearly a token (one girl out of what, twelve werewolves?) and super stereotyped and whiny. I did not like the way that was done at all.

Is it really tokenism? There were plenty of women in the series overall. And it was established that it's extremely unusual for a woman to be a werewolf and the consequences of that anomaly were followed through as much as you can expect for a Twilight book.

I don't know, I liked her. I wasn't supposed to at first because you're right about the narrative saying she's whiny, but I feel like you were supposed to feel more sympathetic toward her after she followed Jacob in breaking away from the pack.

Maybe it wasn't tokenism on the part of the author, but it felt that way to me IDK.

Honestly the werewolves annoyed me and she annoyed me in particular and I feel like the opposite of everyone else because they bugged me so much more than the vamps...(that might be because of all the alpha shit, and/or because Jacob pissed me off much more than Edward did)

I think I just end up defensive of characters who are labeled "whiny". I will always stand up for Capslock Harry in OotP too. I think Leah had plenty to complain about and the rest of the pack wasn't sympathetic enough. Jacob pissed me off too though.

It was even more annoying since they were more sympathetic to Jacob even though he was just as whiny.

Definitely.
