Isn't the name in American English (outside Marvel) usually, "ZEY-vee-er"?

I just don't like when there's a syllable before the X. Say "Xavier" or "Zavier," fine, but "Exavier" would begin with an E.

No, not really. Language migrates. It is whatever people agree that it is, and no one can say it's wrong because of rules. It's only wrong when people agree that it's wrong.
