But in which case the end credits scene was absolutely meaningless

This would make sense for someone who might not have seen all the other movies with Infinity Gems showing up in them and the fact that not a single one has managed to come into Thanos' possession, despite his sending henchmen after them.

Hence, him saying if you want something done right, do it yourself. So, in that regard, it makes perfect sense as a final scene.
