Even if I'm in the right (legally and morally) and the other party has, like, zero empathy, and will do whatever it takes to remove obstacles from their path? And I've suddenly made myself a very attractive target/obstacle by reminding them I'm in the right? You've seen those lyrics, right?

Still extremely unlikely. Unless the other person is actually already a criminal with a history of violence, most people are not willing to actually go to the extreme of harming someone else for fear of repercussions.

Even people with very little empathy. Really, realistically the most you might have to fear is someone trying to mess with your property or saying nasty things about you to their friends and family.

...so, they've already done the other two things you've mentioned...and this person comes from a long line of people who have history of not getting caught, so...though yeah the repercussions would definitely stand in the way (they did before, anyway), for someone else, not just this person. But someone this person takes after/looks towards.
