I'm sick of people telling me I HAVE to vote.

No, I don't. An NO nobody fought and died for my right to vote. I am a white male. No one paid for my right to vote with their lives.

Ditto. White guilt is overrated. Voting, however, is not. People in democratic nations who don't vote (and have no barrier to their voting) have no right to complain when things don't go their way in the government.

That's assuming that OP isn't in the same situation I am, i.e. a vastly safe seat with a high turnout, so any vote against that counts for literally nothing.

...huh? you do realize that in many countries, only white men of nobility could vote, right? like, it was a really long time before most peasants or other people in lower classes were able to vote and even once they were able to, there are a lot of cases where those peasants were pretty much forced by their landlords and other people who had control over them to vote for candidates that weren't acting in their interests and served the interests of the upper classes. even in america, there were still restrictions for a while.

Unless you and your ancestors have always been rich white males, that's not necessarily true, but I get what you're trying to say. You're right though, you're free to not vote. But if you're not going to exercise that hard won right*, then you should expect people to look at you as though you've just angrily announced that nobody can make you wash your hands after taking a shit.

* and you're missing a huge point in that just because the right to vote came easily to YOU means it's no big deal. It's sort of like a billionaire surrounded by people who can barely afford to feed their families announcing that well, he doesn't think having enough money to buy groceries is a big deal. Do you what you want, but be aware you sound like a raging asshole.

Well, people did fight and die for your right to vote. It just wasn't the same people. But any power that the people have, any democratic or republican feature of government, had to come into existence through some kind of struggle.
