Most of Britain didn't want another European based war either, and did not see themselves as European. As one of the Allies (albeit very belated, again) in WW1 America had the exact same level of complicity in enforcing or not enforcing the peace terms of that conflict. In short, America was just as okay as England was with saying go ahead Adolf. And for the same reasons. The difference between the two was that Britain manned up and America wouldn't, even when the abuses of the Nazis came pouring out of the conquered territory.

It was just too bad Britain, unlike America, actually is part of Europe whether it wants to be or not and is like right there and not across an entire ocean.

Britain is not physically part of Europe at all. And certainly back then was not politically part of it either. There might not be as much water between Britain and Europe as there is between America and Europe, but it is enough to draw a bright line. Why was it okay for America to shirk it's duties as administrators of peace terms, and to shirk them for longer too, and not okay for Britain?

Didn't France and Britain promise to protect Poland from Hitler?

I don't recall the US ever getting involved with that, correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought that was why Britain got involved while the US did not.
