Once, when my father and mother first started dating, they planned to go swimming on a Wednesday, the only day off she had. On the day of their date, it was raining when he picked her up. "What are we going to do?" she asked him, and he said "We'll drive until we find the sun."

I always thought there was something grand about that line.

He took her dancing--to the Surf, actually, it was a short drive away in Clear Lake. And they were slow dancing and he told her "I've always dreamed of dancing with a girl who looked just like you."

Neither of them is ever going to see 80 again, but they're still very happy together.
