that movie wouldn't be the hit it was if not for the OJ debacle.

Enh, I'm not sure. It was originally a play in 1926, became a musical in the 70s, and it seems to have done pretty well. It DID get a boost and revival in the 90s, after the Simpson case, but the corruption and media scandal of criminal cases it mocks go back way earlier than that.
