Can you describe some qualities that those stories share, in your eyes, or what about them appeals to you? What sort of feeling you're looking for?

Kinda sounds like sci-fi noir to me, for the most part. Have you seen Blade Runner?

I have. I'm about to commit an online blasphemy by saying it didn't really do it for me.

It never felt like a real world to me. Like it was all surface no structure, you know? I could never imagine any of the characters outside of the story progression, You know? It should have everything I need, but it just falls slightly short for me.

It does, however, fit in to the pattern of stories I mention, tho, so I can't fault your suggestion.
