Fandom spaces

Just been thinking about fandom spaces/communities lately.

Are you primary on one site or do you jump around?
If you're on different sites, is it based on the fandom or on the people?
Have you left places because they've died or because you wanted to be around different people?
Are you mostly on general sites like Tumblr or on fandom-specific sites?

Basically, tell me about the places you hang out on the Internet! :D

For two of them, i'm split between three places. I think only a handful of people also hit all three, but normally it's either tumblr/lj/or an offsite forum.

Used to hang out in a lot more places like The AV Club, Fark and Topless Robot, but now I stick to tumblr and f!s.

I used to hangout on official message boards of shows and TWOP's boards. Now it is mostly Tumblr and here.

Started out on LJ in the Supernatural fandom. Loved it. Made many friends. Met my future wife.

Hopped to tumblr when the fandom started thinning out/I got bored. What a good time. Have hopped from fandom to fandom. Irritated by tumblr culture, but still enjoying myself (two? three? years later).

And just today, I started an LJ comm for Breaking Bad fic, which I hoooope may attract some fans from tumblr over to LJ, because damn, I miss LJ sometimes.

I don't have a tumblr but I check out a few tumblr pages everyday. I've only recently found two people I have any interest in communicating with about their meta but otherwise I don't feel like interacting with tumblr because I'm just there for the art/photos and that's been dwindling some as of late. I don't want to get sucked into any drama.

I used to spend a lot of time on the kink meme for my fandom but that's slowing down too and there's been a few things that have kind of poisoned the atmosphere for me.

Back when I had more time - years ago - I used to follow a dozen+ sites for my fandom. I had a good number of authors and artists I used to follow too. I still check up on them from time to time. I also check the main news sites for the fandom and follow this one professional scholar of the fandom because I really like his articles.

And, sort of separate from my main fandom, I also follow some youtube movie news/reviews everyday, which keeps me up-to-date on everything else that's going on in my other fandoms.

Generally, I have always followed the fandom. There are maybe a handful of authors I've read who were compelling enough that I read all their stuff, which introduced me to new fandoms. But that's pretty rare.

Started out on LJ and messageboards, now I'm on Tumblr, f!s, and Twitter to some degree.

It seems like most people are moving towards more centralised sites (well, Tumblr). Did those message boards die, or did you just move on because of the fandom?

The ones I visited died, unfortunately. :/

I jump around (Tumblr, DW, Reddit, specific forums). Not sure how you can be in a place for the fandom but not the people--aren't the people the fandom?

I've left a few fandom-specific forums when they died, and that's also why I've abandoned LJ. One of the earliest places I've fanned that is still around is probably Bulbagarden forums. Most of the smaller forums bit the dust and are populated by ghosts and bots.

Well, what I meant by that was 'Do you join sites to discuss specific fandoms with whomever or do you join sites to discuss different fandoms with specific people?' Like the difference between fandom-specific forums and F!S :)

Oh, ok. That makes sense. I guess I do both :)

I read wherever there's fic. I hang out on my blog and here, on fs. I have a Tumblr acc and mainly check it for P&F things. For some reason this fandom gets a lot of action there.

I'm mostly on f!s and tumblr these days but I like to pop in on wow_ladies and scans_daily as well sometimes.

I think this and FIMFiction are the only fandom discussion or fanfic creation spaces I hang out on. I used to post on the Spiderweb Software forums before I got bored of that style of game, and I was very briefly on a Heroes forum called 9th Wonders, but nowadays I mostly just read entertainment news rather than discuss or contribute.

I'm mostly here on f!s and on tumblr. Sometimes I read twitter and YouTube comments for the heck of it, but I don't engage in discussion. Mostly the same with reddit... I only visit certain subreddits and lurk.

I do also visit the BSN (BioWare social network) because that's the easiest way to find people passionate about BioWare games. It's a mix of good and bad for sure, but there's some entertainment and on occasion nice insight to be found.

I left LJ quite a few years ago because my friends list had slowed to a crawl, and it wasn't the same; once upon a time I enjoyed making entires and talking with other people about my interests, but when almost everyone I knew moved on I decided to call it quits. It was starting to feel like a waste of time.

I don't really participate in fandom anymore, so I guess the only place I really am is here. I am on Tumblr, but mostly only to help my friends run a blog, I don't do too much on it. I've thought about going back into the Discworld fandom, but ... meh, don't really feel like it.

The only fandom I guess you can say I'm into is Pokemon, since it's the multiplayer aspect that I'm really a fan of. I hang out on /r/SVExchange for SV hatching sometimes but I don't really like the community so I don't go on IRC or anything. Mostly I'm on Smogon, which has to be one of the only fandom spaces I've ever found truly to my liking.

Right now a pretty even mix between Livejournal and Tumblr.
I'm only on Tumblr for the Tolkien fandom because most of it seems to be there. For everything else it is LJ mostly.

I don't just mostly hang around a fandom-spesific site (football) but also a club-spesific site (Chelsea) because I have no fellow fan in RL and I like the company
