I'm white, and I'm suspicious/distrustful of the LAPD. My friends who aren't white are straight up afraid of them.

Ironic, considering eight out of ten cops I meet aren't white at all, and I meet a lot of cops. Bad neighborhood.

And btw? People scared of the LAPD are usually the ones breaking the law. Seen it with my own eyes more than once. Protip: don't brag about your meth business and then say the cops are gonna arrest you for being POC. And don't run in front of cars just for fun, nearly causing accidents and then say the cops want you because you're POC. STOP BREAKING THE FUCKING LAW.

I have been HIT BY A GODDAMN CAR RUNNING A RED LIGHT in front of the LAPD and their response was *shrug* "didn't see it."

I'm not personally scared of the Chicago police--I'm white and my dad is a lawyer--but I definitely don't think my personal experience trumps the hundreds of examples of abuse and corruption in the department.

When I lived in Los Angeles my friend, a disabled woman in a wheelchair living alone, was burgled, and when the LAPD officer came to take her report and she asked what chance he thought there was of catching the people who broke in, he outright laughed in her face.

I was there and witnessed it. What a fucking asshole.

I also had cause to report another crime to LAPD, and they literally didn't give a shit and asked me what I expected them to do about it.

You must live on the west side, and you're probably middle- or upper-class. At any rate, you're delusional. LAPD is a joke, as far as keeping anyone "safe" goes, and L O L at the idea of them being awesome.

Like, yes, it's ridiculous to expect a perfect police presence or performance in such a large clusterfuck of a city, but even so, they could and should be so much better.
