Image: A picture of Snoopy in Jedi robes and wielding a lightsaber, while Woodstock perches on his supper dish with a tiny Darth Vader helmet and lightsaber.

Text: I am less embarrassed about the self-insert, Mary-Sue, OOC, songfic laden fic I wrote when I was 14 then I am about the story I wrote when I was 6 that basically just smashed all my favorite fandoms together.

The first makes me nostalgic; the second makes me want to cover my ears whenever someone brings it up.

Way to be unforgiving, self.

(underneath the picture); Pic related to the one line of that fic that is permanently seared into my brain.

oh geez, you were six, cut yourself some slack!

No worries, OP, our magnum opus when we were fourteen was not just self-insert Mary Sue fic, but ALSO a total mashup of all the things we liked! And I was deeply ashamed about it too! (Not anymore, because it started getting some fans and income.) So we can be embarrassing together!

No worries. I think a lot of people cringe at what they wrote when they were young. It's natural. Just down be too hard on your younger self. Allow yourself permission to make mistakes.

Whereas you should be cringing at what you write now.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-10 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
and you should be cringing at the fact that you have followed a person around for 7 months now because you don't like their work.

Really? because you've never honestly given me anything that can be considered criticism Not even harsh criticism. It's all complaining and griping about how it sucks. For the record "it suuuucks" or "it's so crappy it hurts my eyes" aren't remotely useful.

Like the whole rip offs thing? Rip offs of what? Can you prove it's actually ripping something off and not just using similar tropes. Being able to criticize usually includes the backing up of statements you make and giving evidence . Otherwise it's useless to me.

You're always suggesting I should be ashamed. Why? because you say so? You haven't given me any concrete reasons , just childishly over the top hyperbole. I'm not even hurt by anything you say. Just kinda mildly frustrated. Every time I've asked you too back up anything , you just disappear. Which makes me think you're just here to complain.

You've been doing this for seven months, it's a little concerning how you've been following me around. It's creepy. Is a story you don't like just that infuriating?

Clearly it makes you angry, and if you're not able to make any actual criticisms, why not just take the sane route and avoid it. It's not that hard.

I'm sorry it bothers you so much. I'm sorry I make you angry when I talk about writing. But I'm not going to stop. This is my interest. Never writing again never did anything for anyone. That's not even good advice. But you probably don't care about getting advice. You just hope that if you follow me around and leave negative comments on everything I say that I'll get discouraged.

and if that's the case then you're in for a huge disappointment. Go ahead. Keep following me. See where that gets you. You're not hurting me. You're just wasting your own life.

A+ comment, and for what it's worth I always enjoy seeing your thoughts on writing.

Well, I know I cringe at what I write now. That's part of being an artist: feeling like your work could be better.

Oh, you meant Jaybie in particular? Whatever, troll.

I don't see an issue with either of those, even if you wrote both of them today at your current age, let alone six.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-09 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Why would you think something you wrote when you were 6 has any relevance to anything whatsoever? Who do you think is going to care about that, or going to judge you for it?

You should post it imo.

So I can shame you from the futuuuuuuurrrrrrrre!

Instead of telling you it's stupid to be embarrased, I'll admit I wrote fic at around age 8. That somehow ended up on the internet. Thankfully it's gone now but... every now and again I remember that it existed.

Frankly, I'd like to read the thing you wrote when you were six. Snoopy and Woodstock with light sabers? Hell yeah!

There's plenty of adults still writing "smash my favourites together" fic, and why not? Write what makes you happy!

...also, who brings it up to embarrass you?

My parents, particularly my mom. They think it's cute. And I logically understand that, but internally...ack.
