What do you do for fun (that isn't fandom)?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-09 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you entertain yourself? Got any hobbies (that you actually do regularly!)

I play with my nephew, who is disgustingly cute.

I go on walks constantly. I just like being out and about.

I bake but I am not very good at it. :P

I do Mixed Martial Arts every week, but that's probably my only "regular" hobby these days. I'm writing my dissertation now, which has sadly sucked my desire to do any writing for fun, because now I just want to get away from computer screens and making important words. (I shouldn't say computer screens all together, because I'm awesome at wasting time here every day)

Write, draw, make comics. We also live close to the local arboretum and a big pond, so like to talk long walks checking them out. Sneak does crafts like collage cards, decoupaging furniture, and such.

We never get bored.

Photography and quilting.

(I used to garden when I lived in the Midwest, but I am now 3 climate zones further south and I refuse to garden in hell.)

LOL @ "refuse to garden in hell"

Shitty soil, fire ants, scorpions, and wasps the size of small mice?

As I said, hell.

Everything except for the scorpions sounds like Florida. It amazes me that anyone can grow anything in that state.

My guess is Arizona. "Hell" is definitely an accurate descriptor of the majority of Arizona

I work out pretty much every single day. Today was cardio day. I also play video games pretty much every day.

Aside from that, I hike semi-regularly, I scuba dive rarely (it's hard to get people together and you can't do it alone; my friends tend to be either broke, have no free time, or both). I try to read a bit, too.

I used to have hobbies... once upon a time. Now I just play too many video games.

Read (not nearly as much as I used to/should) all the non-fiction, knit, cook, and do stuff outside/landscaping-ish type things. When the weather is good. Tomorrow, if the weather is good, I shall begin a huge project, and I'm not sure how long it's going to take. I hope at least to get started.

(Scroll past if you don't want graphic gardening details.)

I want to dig up a bank that is too difficult to mow, and plant a butterfly garden. The bank is in the middle of our fruit trees that we had no fruit on last year (because the pollinators noped out of there for some reason). So I am hopeful a butterfly garden will improve that. Plus, butterflies!

Before that, since I can't plant yet due to the frost warnings still going on (we had snow Thursday fml), I'm going to use the hole as a firepit to burn the branches from a wild apple tree that I swear to Cthulhu is part-Ent; it has never been pruned, not within the last ten years that I've dealt with it, anyway. So I am hoping the apple wood ashes will at least provide a good base for the soil for the butterfly garden because our soil has some kind of acid or something in it, and my yard ends up being pretty much bare rocks with patches of hay, if I don't keep it up.

I play video games and I've got a group that likes to get together every month to play board-games(we cycle between houses, bring snacks and games we want to try out and make a day of it).

I also like to collect cards(like Magic and other TCG's) and organise them, so I look for local card-marts to visit so I can check out individual cards rather than buying a booster and hoping for the best.

Well, I work out every day. I wouldn't consider it something I do to entertain myself though (but I won't deny that I can enjoy it, just not all the time), more something that I find necessary to 'stay in shape' (I have a good bit of energy these days, but I feel like I'm insulting everyone who really takes care of themselves if I call myself in shape, lol).

Visiting parks and gardens (so going for walks in pretty places, taking pictures), window shopping and trying on clothes...reading (though, okay, that could be considered fandom because most of what I read is fanfiction), gaming (again, maybe that could be considered fandom? WHATEVER, I LOVE IT, I'VE ALWAYS LOVED IT), making ugly icons (even if the icons are characters from fandom, it's still sort of creative okay?!), organizing shit...

Sometimes reading up on beauty products? (Usually nail polish.)

Geez, I'm boring.

(I should get back into drawing. Sports anime also made me want to take up a sport, but that's a lot of effort.)

Writing my alternate history story, or just looking up interesting things in general. You are never too old to learn something new.

I love reading and walking. Which works well for me because I live walking distance to a library so I'm always walking to the library to pick up new books.

I knit and have started to learn how to crochet, but those are more winter hobbies than spring/summer hobbies.

I read books! Whenever I have time, that is. Mostly classic literature. Also gaming! Again whenever I have time.

Writing, drawing, consuming all things creepy and horror, Jeopardy, and watching stuff that teaches me history.

I also raise my nephew which provides me with hours of cartoons and dinosaurs, and I'm okay with that. xD
