Weird Dreams

(Anonymous) 2015-05-09 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
What weird dreams have you had? Any recurring ones?

(Interpretation welcome, but not necessary!)

I used to always have dreams about animals chasing me, including dogs - which was weird because I wasn't even afraid of dogs, they just didn't like me or vice versa in my dreams. As I got older, it started being people. I watched a documentary on it, and a Finnish psychologist suggested that this may actually be evolutionary - it's our dreams warning us of dangers, and as we get older, it stops being more primal and more modern/adult.

Pfft, too many to count. Probably one of the more entertaining was when we were a kid and dreamed we were a douchebag sword-fighting anthropomorphic fox. We were some form of minor nobility, but we were a total dick to everyone who served us, so our cook eventually poisoned us and we died.

We woke up feeling that the cook was totally in the right. We were a DOUCHE.

One time I was kinda sleepwalking, and I had stomach issues, except in my sleepwalk dream I was a Dutch guy with long hair.

... I am an American woman with medium length hair.

I often find myself other people in dreams. I'm not sure how rare that is, though.

Lately I have a lot of dreams/nightmares about needing to lock a door, but being unable to. In the dreams, I can never figure out if I've just locked or unlocked the door by turning the latch, so I turn the knob to see if it's locked, and it never is. Sometimes I just repeatedly slam the door shut and attempt to lock it again, getting more and more panicked the more I fail to lock it. Sometimes it opens all the way and I see that there's someone/something beyond it that means me harm.

They're really starting to freak me out.

You're worried about something and/or are facing a big decision or a major life change?

I just have nightmares. I can't remember ever having a pleasant dream. I sometimes have nightmares with nice moments, but they are still bad dreams.

Common/recurring themes: Being hunted and chased (generally by family members), zombies, dead people, hiding from something.

This was a particularly bad dream I had once: http://i.imgur.com/82EBUfo.png

Also had one involving a zombie whale. I know it sounds silly, but it was horrifying.

The first dream I can remember was of a giant gorilla coming out of the woods at my house to eat my family. It scared me so bad I didn't go outside for like 3 days because I thought it would happen!

Tons when I was growing up. My grandma's house getting a spiral staircase with a bottomless pit over it (my horrible dreams of spiral staircases gave me a slight anxiety toward them). Or a huge hall of evil with demon tiki masks. Or a dream of being trapped in one of the piano room paintings, running for my life from God knows what. Oh and also the repeated dreams of the Independence Mall being caught on fire.

My subconscious REALLY HATED Independence Mall for some reason.

lots! I semi-lucid-dream quite often, so things like flying are the norm for me.
When I was on some codeine-laced medicine I had the most vivid, easily controllable dream of my life. I grew wings - fully visible, casting a shadow and a reflection - with hardly any effort at all, for example.

I think one of my most fun dreams was that I was Cloud and I got to beat the shit out of Sephiroth. So satisfying.

My latest campaign is trying to break "earth"'s orbit, i.e. have my dream-self go out into space. It's actually a lot more difficult than I had anticipated.
The first time, I managed to fly extremely high, only to hit a ceiling in the sky. I tore through it, and when I came out the other side, I found myself in my own room, at night. I tried tearing through my own ceiling, but didn't really get anywhere.
The second time, I managed to break through several layers of ceilings. I kept breaking through to more "outer" layers, until finally I made it into an area with no gravity, and then into space itself.
It was pretty cool, though the dream wasn't lucid enough for me to really consider that time a success. There was a lot of extraneous plot going on around me that I kept having to avoid/ignore.

Sometimes I draw scenes or images from my dreams. I've even had times where in the dream itself I decide that this is an image I want to draw, and do several flybys to get the image right and fixed in my mind. Even so, upon waking I usually find that I have to "fix" the perspective a bit, because it doesn't always make sense...

I went through a phase of always walking through the same cornfield. Everything was cast in pinks and purples, like it was just before twilight in summer.

In one dream, a train station appeared in the field and I waited at it but no train ever came.

all my recurring dreams are pretty normal cause they're things I fear in real life lmao.

I did have a dream recently though that basically I woke up in my bed but I was keenly aware I wasn't actually awake, it was a dream, and at first I couldn't move then I was like "no come on this is a dream of course you can move" and so I got up and started trying to wake myself up, but I couldn't until I suddenly did. It was kinda freaky.

The other day, I had a dream about waking up from a bad dream, feeling really confused, and telling my mother that I was scared I couldn't tell the difference between dreams and reality anymore. She tried to reassure me, but I felt even more confused when I woke up for real.

I'll also mention that every dream I ever have about being home takes place in my old house, and my mother is always present. I have never dreamt about any of the apartments I've lived in since I moved out.

I keep having a nightmare where my teeth are loose and fall out one by one.

Re: Weird Dreams

(Anonymous) 2015-05-10 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
This has got to be weirdly common, cause I have talked to several people who mention loosing their teeth as a common nightmare they have? I wonder why...

Re: Weird Dreams

(Anonymous) 2015-05-10 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
It is a very common dream--the most common interpretation says it comes from worrying about feeling the loss of control.

Some sources relate teeth to financial issues. Not sure how the correlation came about; super expensive dentist, maybe?

Greatest hits of the last week or so:

1. My fiancé had a deaf little sister, and her mom kept forgetting? And I had to keep being like "uh? she can't hear you?" (My fiancé has many sisters; none are deaf.)

2. Somebody had a baby. I was snowed into my parents' house, everyone was upset, and I was arguing with my fiancé about whether or not her mom (or my mom? idk) had been rude in telling us about the baby.

3. I was trying to sleep outside, but people started mowing the lawn.

4. I was hanging out with Kanye West, but he kept throwing giant, very heavy/oversized basketballs over a fence into the highway and injuring motorcyclists severely.

5. My cousin and I were at a movie theater, trying to find our parents, but also, our parents were mad at us. The movie theater was also a casino, and we'd lost our jackets.

6. I was trying to leave school for a break. My legs stopped working (I dream this a lot; I have a lot of chronic pain and frequently dream I can't walk at all), so an old friend who I didn't part with on great terms very begrudgingly dragged me to his car to drive me home. Only I was staying with somebody else, and their address turned out not to exist. It was super, super stressful, and I started crying, so we pulled into the parking lot of a diner, where a lot of weird kids started trying to get us to let them cut and dye our hair.

7. My mom died, and I found out over text, and nobody would let me go home and deal with it because I had to finish up my shift at the weird treehouse restaurant I was working in in the dream.

It was several years into an alternate future where George Harrison didn't get cancer and was still alive and he was talking to me, telling me John and Ringo used to have sex with each other all the time but I couldn't tell anyone because he didn't want Paul to know. I was all like, "What, Paul's not homophobic is he?" and George goes, "No, but he couldn't handle it if he knew"
