I actually find it fun to look over a fandom and see all the copycats and trends without really knowing the source or contributing. I feel like I'm seeing a tiny little microcosm, and find the source of such fanon cliches really interesting. (Who came up with the whole "Seamus will bang anything" thing?)

This! I love it. And usually, the originals that got copycatted are distinctly different from the later ones. Seeing the way trends migrate and evolve (or devolve) or split into many different variations and subgenres over time is really cool.

I know, right? Especially since most of them don't really make a lot of sense on their own. It's fascinating watching them go, and become their own tropes. (Draco In Leather Pants, anyone?)

Speaking only for myself, I love seeing the million and one different ways Snape survives the Nagini attack. Then there are 8th year fics and stories that actually address a post-war society. Honestly, though, I don't know whether they qualify as tropes or as genres.

You know, I haven't even READ all the Harry Potter books and I wouldn't mind reading an eighth year fic where everyone finishes their schooling and tries to recover from a traumatic seventh year.

I'm going to explore these when I get home. :-)

I don't know what you like to read, so I can't really recommend anything, but I'm hoping there will be something new to me in there somewhere.
