Weirdest Food

What is the weirdest food you have eaten?

Pizza with Costa Rican ants on it.

Of course, I didn't know the ants were on it until AFTER I'd eaten it.

Moral of the story: generally a good idea to put your glasses on before eating pizza that's been on the bedside table.

Squid sandwich with tentacles sticking out?

I dunno, what do you call weird?

I've had squid salad (at the Burmese and Vietnamese restaurants) and squid with pineapple (Vietnamese). I like squid a lot.

Squid's awesome. It's just some people are weird about it. I also really like tripe soup.

Probably kelp chips. I don't know anyone else that's ate them. For meat, I've had squirrel, elk, and barbequed squid. I think those are a little uncommon.

Like eating a lamb flavoured ball of squishy fatty juice and a really odd texture. Texture was Kinda like thin tofu? I dislike tofu cause of the texture.

I've had chicken feet in a Chinese restaurant. I'm white and I shocked the hell out of a Chinese lady by eating them.

Baby octopus salad, maybe? I had it once, probably wouldn't have it again. TBF, I had it at a not-very-reputable restaurant. I might have liked it more if it had been prepared better.

I haven't had balut, but I have had betamax and isaw (grilled chicken intestine). I don't really remember the taste of the blood/intestine on their own, just the delicious vinegar/onion/soy sauce mix that came with it. :d

Had haggis once, it tasted like meatloaf but with a dry, pebbly texture.

Chicken feet, I guess. For a certain value of "weird."

It's a toss-up between durian smoothie and tequila worm lollipop. The smoothie was better.

Frog.

It tastes like chicken.

Re: Weirdest Food

(Anonymous) 2015-05-12 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Man, I've heard people say this a lot, but I just can't agree with it. I suppose it's a little chicken-y (and the texture is very similar, for sure!), but the taste is...well, it's definitely obvious that the frog lived mostly in the water. I wouldn't call it a fishy taste, exactly, but sort of...swamp...y? I'm not sure how to describe it. The overall experience was unpleasant for me.

Then again, maybe I just got bad frog legs.

I've had frog's legs. they do taste like fried chicken.

Probably jellyfish. Thanks, chulu (rip). Not to be confused with jellied fish, like the lutefisk I have to wait till xmas to try.

It wasn't bad per se since I was putting sauce and seasoning on it like I would noodles, but whoa was I not prepared for the texture. I wanna say it was crackly but not?
