But so? This argument just seems so weak to me. People are allowed to like characters for any reason, be it just "they are hot" or "I enjoy them on screen" or whatever. No one is obligated to like or dislike a character for any reason.

I found Relena a terrible character and extremely grating. And I liked most of the male characters (except Wufei). Does not mean I'm sexist.

i never said they weren't. i like some terribly written characters myself. i just find the "she was terribly written" argument weak when terribly written male characters have some of the biggest fanbases. if you dislike relena for your own reasons that's fine.

There's always the chance that female characters actually do tend to be written more terribly on average than male characters. When most series/shows/movies only have one, maybe two female characters at all (most movies not even passing the Bechdel test), written by usually male writers... I'm not saying there isn't a double standard, but I think a lot of female characters, especially in action, male-targeted shows, are actually just written badly.

Someone brought up a good point here once: if we're willing to believe sexism is a thing, and that a lot of people are sexist in how they judge female characters, then it's only logical to accept that a lot of writers are sexist in how they write female characters.
