I saw it years ago when it came out and I don't remember hating it, but I don't remember anything else either.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-13 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL That was my thought too. I remember sitting in the theatre and not much else.

In his stand-up days, Eddie Murphy used to have a whole bit about how if The Amityville Horror had been about a black family, it would've been twenty minutes long, because only white people are crazy enough to stay in a house they know damn well is haunted.

I can't watch a movie where a man sells out his values that deeply.

lol

excellent analysis

(Anonymous) 2015-05-13 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
lmao

I gave up after a few minutes.

I'm not sure what I was expecting based on the ride, but that wasn't it. Still, it wasn't the worst Eddie Murphy movie or even the worst Disney movie.

I...think I liked it? I was maybe 10 when I saw it so I don't actually remember much. I do recall being weirdly into the idea of the mansion's owner trying to blackmail the main female character into marrying him because he believed she was the reincarnation or whatever of his wife. I was a weird kid.

...I'm still weirdly into it tbh

Now I'm surprised this movie didn't leave a bigger impression on me. I don't remember that but I would have been really into it too.

I really liked it when I saw it as a kid. It was juuuust creepy enough to be interesting without freaking me out (I was a complete wuss with a very low tolerance for that kind of thing when I was younger haha). I'll probably never watch it again because I probably wouldn't like it nearly as much as I did 12 years ago, but I have fond memories of it.

I caught the beginning of this on cable once and I thought the opening seemed cool, but then it started falling apart after the title card.

I remember nothing about this film except the fact that it exists. (And I'm fairly sure I watched it at some point. Oops.) The Disney ride was awesome though. (Probably my favorite after Pirates of the Caribbean.)

I like this movie, quite a bit actually...

It's harmless, spooky fun

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I still nurse a certain fondness for this film. Largely, I admit, because of Nathaniel Parker as Mr Gracey, but I also like the story behind the haunting and how it played out in the end. It was surprisingly touching there in places, and really the film's no worse than the original Casper was, and in much the same vein.

Mostly I just remember that I shipped Sara and Mr. Gracey, which is probably kind of messed up but whatever. Dude was cute

I watched this on a plane when I was something like 11 and I remember I liked it even though it was bad. I liked the scene where the son, who is terrified of spiders, sticks his hands into the pile of spiders to rescue his family, because I was terrified of spiders too. And the mansion owner getting the wife to marry him. I probably would hate it if I rewatched it but I have good memories.

never seen it

I don't know if I can go back to watching Marsha Thomason as a straight woman. I may be all, "Diana! No!"

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
the hatred for this movie isn't so much about the movie's quality itself but that it didn't at all live up to the ride's quality and nostalgia, the Haunted Mansion deserves better.

Text: I didn't think it was that bad. Bland as all hel, sure, but it was compelling enough to sit through, and I liked the villain's send-off.

Not only do I like this movie, but I genuinely have a hard time seeing what's so bad about it. It's one of THOSE movies to me.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It would have been a perfect Disney Channel movie, not so much for a theater release.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree with this (I mean, I doubt they could have gotten Eddie Murphy for just a tv disney movie at the time, but I agree with the spirit of this comment)
