Text: Once in a while
I think about
online deaths of my fandoms.
When the mods leave
and no one else can step up.
The last rec list
of fic from another time.
Echoes of wank
masterposts lost
backlogs arcane to the new.
Scattered canon
buried fanon
I’d save it all if I could.

Me too. I want everything to be better archived. And I mean literally everything.

I'm in two minds. Do we really want future generations to see all our fandom witterings? Imagine every trivial conversation from the past had been stored and cluttering up our now.

On the other hand, so much has already been lost and often it's the best fics.

Yea, I'm not sure either. Sometimes I think it would be amazing if everything was cataloged and easy to find, but maybe it's for the best. I know I said embarrassing shit as a teen, and I'm sure others have plenty of online comments/activities they'd rather forget too, so...

(It does REALLY suck when your favorite fic are deleted, but that's why you should save it if you want it. I never think to do this, and it has come back to bite me in the ass many times.)

Yes? I love seeing older generations' fandom witterings, and I would love for future generations to see ours too. It's not much clutter IMO.

I wish I would've had the foresight to save A/E fic from one author who has disappeared from the internets. Where are you now, Jeanne de Carnin? (sob)

You can tell when they start circling the wagons and friends only-ing their stuff that it's time to download, but sometimes you don't cotton on in time.

The only thing I can find is some podfic based on her stories, here: http://www.audiofic.jinjurly.com/jeannedecarninauthor

I'm sorry. I understand your pain. *pats back*

I was a million years too late to the Shatnoy fandom and the best fic got re-written and published as a book *sob*
