Yeah, they're seeing it, but they're coming away disappointed.

But they are still seeing it. And it was reviewed favorably.

And honestly, most people I've talked to loved it. The only group of people I've seen who didn't were the more radical side of Tumblr who nitpicked every fucking thing in the movie.

Eh, it's got 66 on metacritic and an average 6.7/10 on rotten tomatoes, which is about what I'd give it. It wasn't bad. I was entertained.

At the same time it wasn't anywhere near as good as the first one and really does seem like they're running out of ideas. If Avengers 3 follows the same formula I doubt I'll bother with it.

That said, the Transformers movies still make money by the truckload, so I'm not sure mediocrity is a barrier to popularity.

And I can't see how they are running out of ideas. I mean, all the major plot points are from comic books. And there are a ton of story lines for them to choose from.

And the Transformers is a perfect example of why there is NO reason to be worried. The Transformers review terribly but they keep making them. Because reviews don't reflect what audiences want to see.

The 74% is the percentage of critics who gave it a positive score. A "positive score" on RT is anything over 6/10, I believe. If you look right below that number, it'll give you an "Average Score" of 6.7/10 which is what they actually rated it, on average. It functions differently than Metacritic, which gives the average out of 100, rather than the percentage of critics who gave it a score over a certain threshold.

The result is that a fairly mediocre film can end up with an almost perfect score on RT, lol. If everybody thought it was a 6.1/10, it'd be rated at 100%.

I've never been much of a comic fan, but if there's that much to choose from, why are the plots for the main entries so samey? I understand that the Civil War is something different, but I don't want to pay another $10 to watch yet more uninspired group tower defense with a couple of mediocre-to-adequate one-liners before someone inevitably gets Joss'd for cheap drama.

Because that is the nature of superheroes? They are good guys who fight bad guys. Different bad guys, different conflicts (internally and externally) but that is what they are about.

Most people don't want to see a superhero movie where Tony Stark spends the whole time doing corporate takeovers.

Nah, the formula is a lot more specific than "good guys who fight bad guys." The Winter Soldier was nothing like either of the Avengers films. Neither was, say, Man of Steel. Or The Watchmen. Or The Dark Knight. Or even the original Iron Man. Yet these are all superhero movies.

They really don't have to all be "save the planet from robot-aliens through team tower defense."

Not a Tumblrite by any stretch of the imagination, and been a Marvel fan for decades. I was incredibly disappointed by AoU. It was barely a cohesive story, it smacked of a really cynical link-in-the-franchise chain. And for a long time fan to actualy notice Marvel's cynical marketing when they've been doing it do well for so long is saying something.

I'm not a Tumblr radical by any means, but I am the Anon who pointed out to you about the scenes concerning Natasha and her non-consensual advances against Bruce.

But this is coming from someone who strongly identifies with Bruce and draws strength from his character. So seeing him shoved completely under the blanket of 'sudden love story that we're just supposed to accept' as well as being the victim of emotional/mental abuse really ruined the whole thing for me.

And to be fair, I'm not talking strictly about Natasha on that. Tony's latter scene with him peer pressuring Bruce into finishing Vision was just as bad.

I agree with you on the whole pushing him into a whole part. Your comments made me think about how shitty of a thing that was.

Though, otherwise I was enjoying their romance. And I think that Bruce not coming back at the end shows that he ain't here for that shit.

But I really don't consider the Tony thing to be peer pressure. That is just a friend trying to hype his friend up to do something. My friends have done it to me before (You've GOT to go to this party. Commmeeee onnnnn. You gotta go). It can be annoying but I would call it something bad (I know I've done it to them as well).

For people with negative experiences of it, there's an incredibly fine line between hyping and persuading, and pressuring and guilt-tripping.

I'm really glad it hasn't been your experience, but that kind of thing does make a lot of people very uncomfortable.

Ok just because you project onto a situation doesn't mean everyone has to interpret it the same way.

Oh, I very much agree that Hulk and Bruce being of one mind and getting the hell out of there was great. It's the one good moment they have, since everything else was based off of other characters (Natasha, Tony).

I was just kind of uncomfortable with how Bruce was given the shaft mentally in this movie. He didn't have any moments where he was doing something he liked, aside from the Mjolnir scene, and it lasted a whopping four seconds and ended up feeling awkward as hell because no one (not even his buddy Tony) laughed at his attempt of self humor.

So I just didn't really receive it well when after the first time blew up in their faces, Tony wouldn't take no for an answer with Bruce when he declined. That, and it was kind of a repeat of the Ultron scene, so it was very deja vu for me.

Oh, and in addition to Bruce doing things he liked- there was that science montage. I'm okay with that one too.

But that's like... two moments out of a shit ton that involved forced romance.

I don't think I count as a radical Tumblrite and I was pretty disappointed tbh. But out of the three people I went with, the two people who aren't in fandom at all loved it, while the other person who's in fandom (but not MCU fandom) hated it, hahaha.
