This looks... exactly like how I figured hollywood would fuck this up actually. Josie and Pussycats without the self awareness comes to mind.

I hope the comic ends up becoming stellar cause we sure aren't going to find a Jem revival here.

actually, Almost Famous, the Lady Gaga remix sounds way better than this. Almost Famous was a great fucking movie.

my plurk timeline blew up about this last night. I'm over flipping tables and now down to quiet disappointment.

but someone mentioned to me that they basically took a script for a movie that was already prepped, called Famous, and just renamed the characters and record label to apply Jem Whitewash(tm). If that's true it's just. Dumber than dumb. It's not even a Jem remake or a LA version of Jem, it's a Miley Cyrus grrrlpower rockband movie that just had some names from an old 80's cartoon no one knows applied to it.

So the crowdsourcing was just bullshit to get some more people caring about this? I'd believe it. I mean lets face it, the suggestions from the peanut gallery would have made a less generic movie then this, and that's assuming 4chan got inovlved.

I wouldn't even call this a remake. There's precious little of anything in here beyond the names that has any resemblance to the original whatsoever. There were ways to bring it up to date without making it virtually unrecognizable, generic dreck.

This looks about as awful as I expected it to be, but I'm still disappointed.

ugh I don't understand why they didn't just fully embrace the 80s-ness of Jem, what the fuck is the point of setting it in the modern day? young people today would lose their shit over the 80s nostalgia and fashion, what a stupid missed opportunity.

And to top it all off, the music is apparently so crappy that they had to layer a completely different pop song over the trailer.
This looks like Hannah Montana with more fake drama and in pink.
But hey, that girl has access to some pretty impressive autotune on her laptop.

That is what they needed to do. Just go full 80's camp on this shit. Find old 80's fashions that were REJECTED AT THE TIME and dress everybody in this movie up in those.

Well yeah. I find it mandatory that the movie should suck where the comic is so far awesome (although it's never going to be a bestseller because comics lol). If anyone actually expected the trailer and premise to do anything but completely disregard the key canon points of the original and not disappoint them, they kinda set themselves up for it.

Also no, DBZ movie is my pick for bad remake subject headlines. eta ohhhh you said stream whoops.

I'm still undecided about the comic. Though we are also on issue #2 so I'm still in. I hope we get the INSANITY of the cartoon and I'm worried it'll not go that way in favor of drama. i mean, Jem needs drama, but there should be a healthy mix of "Oh no I want Rio but I also want Riot" and "GODDAMN IT THE MISFITS KIDNAPPED KIMBER AND PUT HER IN A LIVE VOLCANO OH FUCK HOW HAVE THEY NOT BEEN ARRESTED SERIOUSLY"* And I'm worried this comic is going to ignore the later half. If the comic is willing to be insane, then it will have my loyalty forever.

*People who didn't watch the cartoon, this happened. Swear to god. A volcano. They put her in an active volcano.
