I give him slack because it wasn't a sincere answer. The thing about Scarlett and the sexist questions was the whole point, the interviewers on the press tour kept asking the guys "omg, which one of the Avengers will Natasha hook up with?" like it the only point of her character was to date one or several of them. Renner thought it was a stupid question (and had heard it for the umpteenth time) and so in this specific interview gave a stupid deadpan answer. It was tacky and his explanation was messy, but the initial comment was more about them thinking the interviewer being cliche and boring than it was about either Renner or Evans' thoughts about Black Widow.
