There's one easily missed line of dialogue in one game establishing that their ages are the same relative to each other as the historical guys they're based on, i.e. Hanbei is 2 years older than Kanbei.

But as anyone who's played Dynasty Warriors can also tell you, Koei gets really weird about ages in their games. It's like they just kind of come up with a character design they think looks cool, and then throw it out there without any consideration for the amount of time that's supposed to be passing, so you get people in DW who could possibly pass for younger than their own children, or that one story mode where everyone stays the same age except for a single NPC who ages like 40 years over the course of the story.

tl;dr, I'm in this fandom and I ship this but YEAH, IT BUGS ME TOO orz

The comment about ages made me recall like: "hasn't there been some dialogue in games about these dudes ages or something along the lines: 'the other one looks considerably older than the other but actually they are the same-ish age'?". Thanks anon, for shedding light to my uncertain mind before I even got to asking :D

I don't ship them, at least much, but my roommate who years back introduced me to Koei's Warriors games ships Hanbei and Kanbei like it is hot.

I've never been bothered by characters not really aging in these games, and if I were I'd probably solve it for myself by reminding myself that these are not exactly that serious games, or at least that the portrayal of anything and everything in them is probably not meant to be realistic anyway.
