You've... seen the faces in this comic right? There's other reasons.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Greg land and rob liefield still work in mainstream comics.

Homestuck is a popular series.

Have you seen the early penny arcade comics?

Bad art is not something that usually get's this reaction.

Legitimately, there's something about this art that's bad and unsettling. Early Penny Arcade is just amateurish, Greg Land is just bland and unoriginal, and Homestuck is at least a style. This is just... guh.

Also, from my very brief and long ago reading of the comic, I remember the writing being pretty bad.

Bad art always gets that reaction from me. I frankly have no interest in reading a comic that's not aesthetically pleasing, or at very best, neutral. Ugly art is an instant pass for me, I don't care how good the comic is.

dude people make fun of greg land and rob liefield ALL THE FUCKING TIME. For fuck's sakes, I've heard people wish that they would straight up die.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
um, yeah it definitely is. i outright refuse to watch or read anything with bad art, sometimes to the point of getting angry/offended about it if it's a successful series, lol.

for example, i don't know what this is or what it's about, but i completely understand OP's reaction solely based on the art. :(

Greg Land and Rob Liefeld actually draw better then this (though they get tons of shit, so this argument is kinda invalid?)

The colors in homestuck are beautiful.

I will freely admit that Penny Arcade probably shouldn't exist.

This art however, is worse then all of the faults of the others combined.

Though the "make the faces" meme is it's one redeeming value

I think this and Liefeld are equally bad in different ways.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
There's something about this that makes me feel as though the bad art is meant in an offensive way, though. That it's ugly on purpose and whether the intent may be funny or ironic, it's far from either for me; on the contrary, it just feels creepy and vaguely exploitative.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-16 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
yeah there's definitely a sense of humor to it. it's intentional. there's too much detail and it's put in the right spots.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-16 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Well, obviously I get that there's meant to be. But it fails spectacularly for me, because I don't think "grotesque and unsettling" falls anywhere near "funny."

As said below though, that would be fine for a humor comic but is a REALLY BAD IDEA for a porn comic.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-16 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, there is bad art that is charming or cute in it's own way. Art can be endearing even if it's bad.

That is not the case with the art in OP. It's downright unsettling.

Also last time I checked people mock the shit out of Liefeld's art all the time. I don't know how he gets work in that field when his art is pretty much a joke.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-16 01:40 am (UTC)(link)

it's more that with a comic like homestuck, the art isn't as important as the story and homestuck is a very story driven comic (although there are some pretty cool animation parts). sure, there are still some people who can't get into homestuck because of the art but most of the fans are in it for the storyline. the thing with moon over june though is that it's a porn webcomic and if your porn comic doesn't have sexy art, then that prevents a lot of people from enjoying it and of course people will make fun of the goofy art because it's not titillating. if homestuck were just a run of the mill porn comic without the plot that it has, then it probably wouldn't have done very well due to the art style.

liefield and land gets ton of shit for their art btw. like, so much shit. they have entire memes centered around them

(Anonymous) 2015-05-16 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, Noodle-Bro, you like Homestuck, your opinion is invalid.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-16 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
If the art was objectively bad, I doubt the fandom would be so huge.

Art is good enough when it needs to be

(Anonymous) 2015-05-16 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, using Xamag art is cheating! >:o

(Anonymous) 2015-05-16 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's really not hard to have good art when the comic is done by 12+ artists for hire at points.
