Re: Convention thread!!!
I did Anime Weekend Atlanta in 2006 with a friend of mine and we had a great time but it just never fit our schedule again, since we did it in college and then both moved far away.
I fell out of anime fandom and debated attempting to go to San Diego Comic Con this year but timing wasn't right. I ended up at the extra events for SDCC last year (Saw Welcome to NightVale/Thrilling Adventure Hour crossover and the Nerdist podcast) and I had fun but I think I'd be overwhelmed.
Really, to me, it's all about who I went with and the memories from it.
Re: Convention thread!!!
This, so much. I think, had I gone to any of the cons I'd mentioned in my reply above without someone else alongside (SDCC and ECCC with some friends, and PCC with my sister), I'd probably only remember them as a 'fun little weekend diversion' and not have a ton of good memories. I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but some of my more fond convention memories often have very little to do with the conventions themselves and more or less the stuff I did with other people. If that makes any sense.
Re: Convention thread!!!
AnimeNext was known for the concerts and we did that one year and I had such a blast being with her. We would have so many little inside jokes to last us until the next year when we'd make more. We both got busy with work/school and drifted out of the anime/manga fandom, but I really did enjoy going when I did.
