... at first I read that as "I hate sex" and was mightily confused.

Re: Why do you ship your OTP

I have a bunch of OTPs for a variety of reasons but the general overall theme is that I love both characters on their own, usually one character is a bit of a woobie and needs some love and I want to see that, and the two characters have an interesting dynamic to me.

Or if the characters don't interact much, their situation and the positions they find themselves within the world create a dynamic that I think would be interesting if explored.

But mostly, I want my favorite characters to enjoy a fluffy ending.

I only have two requirements, they are hot and they like each other.

And the second one doesn't even count for PWP.

But I have so many, how do I choose?!

Okay, I'll pick McShep because that's one of my favorites.

God, they have the best banter, and are adorable together. I love how awkward they can be about expressing their feelings and yet when they need each other they rise to the occasion, even if they do so imperfectly. (And okay, sometimes in REALLY REALLY FUCKED UP ways. Hello Miller's Crossing.)

I love that we see them putting their lives on the line again and again for each other (despite that being standard practice for the Stargate universe); it seems to happen with alarming frequency. When one of them gets a character specific episode, the other is typically involved in a way that highlights their friendship. I love that.

And even though they can be dicks to each other, in all I think they're good for each other and bring a weird sense of stability and balance to each other's lives.

Because Otacon and Snake are basically married anyway and have an adopted daughter together. Also: "Do you think love can bloom even on a battlefield?"

So many MGS spoilers

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-05-16 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly feel like the love on the battlefield comment isn't even one of the more shippy ones! MGS2 was especially good for that ship because of Emma... You had Otacon arguing with his sister and Snake eventually deciding to answer her calls instead because he saw how distraught Otacon was getting. And of course Snake lecturing Emma about talking to Otacon that way, saying, “You don't really mean that".

I also loved the bit near the end of the game where if you call Otacon on the codec, he'll tell Raiden to come back with Snake or not at all. I don't remember the exact phrasing, but it was so firm and protective and beautiful.

Seeing them from an outside POV made their married couple status so much more obvious.

And of course there were a million sweet and gentle moments in MGS4, but the one that always gets me is “Snake... Had a hard life", like, no, stop, I can't Hal. (Oh, and Hal rubbing Snake's back when he's coughing up his lungs. :(

I'm so glad they got to spend Snake's last days together, though.

oh yeah, Snake playing peacemaker between Otacon and Emma is so great, especially the contrast with how in the first game his whole thing was being all "I don't want to get involved in anybody else's problems"

Re: da

Exactly, then he butts in to try and talk sense into Hal's sister. It's all so domestic! (The whole game is like that, which is why I never understand how anyone can dislike MGS2. There's a lot of great Snake/Otacon relationship stuff, and even if you don't ship them they're great to watch/listen to and have a cute partnership.)

And hell, if you take a bunch of pictures of Scott on the tanker Otacon will make a comment about Snake having a crush and pasting a montage above Snake's bed, lmao. That's love.

... And the lingering hug at the end of the best handshake ever. :( They are so cute. (And now I want to play MGS2 again.)

Many, many reasons. But condensced it would be becasue I enjoy their relationship and think they have great chemistry together. Of course that would be a lot of OTPs but it basically boils down to that.

I should probably add that I enjoy when my OTPs bring out the best of each other when they are together.

Both of them don't really fit in with their family and their community. One's adopted, and he's faced a lot of conflict between his heritage and his upbringing. The other's driving herself crazy looking for a place in the world, but wherever she belongs, it probably won't be on the farm where she grew up and with the work her family has. I figure they can be lonely together.

I've only seen these words used in conjunction with either Destiel or Johnlock, in which case, lol.

For me I think I tend to gravitate towards couples who have positive interaction or are close friends in canon, this isn't always the case mind-you as I've got some OTP's that are either not that well developed in the canon or have a terse relationship, but with them I think it's the potential of their relationship that pulls me in.

And I love all my OTP's for various different reasons, some of them overlap but for the most part each OTP I have has a different reason as to why I ship it.

A vast amount of devotion built on top of an already close friendship. You can sweeten the deal with some grand gesture, liking saving each other's life or something.

They die together and/or one of them dies as the other holds them. Apparently that's all I need. I've have a couple OTPs and they all follow that basic pattern.

Re: Why do you ship your OTP

(Anonymous) 2015-05-17 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Depends on the pairing - I have one per fandom I'm in. Overarching similarities are that they get on/are friends, and have a lot of respect for each other. Being able to get (and support) each other's personalities is also important. I've got some OTPs that are similar and therefore get on, and I've got a couple that are somewhat different but have baseline similarities and still supportive of each other's differences.

They're both kind of screwed-up weirdos, and gruff, and eccentric, and strange, to the point that it would be surprising for either to find love. But as much as they keep denying it, they're totally in love and it's great.

All the h/c potential, plus I like them separately as people, also hot to look at.
