Okay, it has literally been years, but I remember the kid!lock stuff as mostly cutesy/innocuous. Has this changed recently?

nope, most of the kidlock stuff is still completely innocuous and the percentage of shota fics and kidlock fics is still about the same with shota fics being like less than 1% of the fics being written.

I like to stay well away from the circles where shota art can be drawn, so I'm not terribly well informed about general tendencies. What baffles me, though, is that the initiators of the wank draw some pretty skeevy things themselves - shippy fawnlock, for example.
