That is because autism's "symptoms" aare really so diverse that you can pretty much throw any non-normal behavior in under the label and call it autistic. It is far too braod to the point it might not exist at all. The high functioning stuff in particular is mostly just behavioural maladaptivity and should be corrected with behavioral measures.
