Gold Tinted Spectacles? What's it about? (Besides the obvious, of course.)

It's a creature fic. Harry is something rare (I can't remember what) and he can literally see magic. Draco bonds with him to keep Harry grounded while he's adapting to the changes in his magic. Lucius tries to kill Draco for defecting and it doesn't work out very well for him. It's very well written novel-length fic.

Can you link that? Creature fics aren't really my bag, but I'll try anything I've not read.

Um, not to insult asecretchord here, if she loves the fic that's great, but just as a warning, I remember Gold Tinted Spectabcles as being *terrible*. Unbelievably ooc and intolerably bad writing. One of the worst things I've ever tried to read. It was very popular, so obviously there are a lot of people who would disagree with me, but there were also plenty of us who couldn't even get past the first few chapters.

One of the issues with it, which was sporked and which Emma Grant fully concedes, is the excessive use of alternate names ("The blonde", etc) to describe people, most notably Harry and Draco.

Also to be fair it was written around GoF or OotP, which was a time when characterization was still in a greater state of flux because nobody was yet sure how things would end.

Omg I hate epithets.

ugh, me too. Especially when it's something like "the taller man" when I literally have no idea (I tend not to notice unless it's a different of about half a foot) or "the blond" when I think of them as both having lightish brown hair.

Hah, honestly, I've probably tried to read it before and didn't like it.

No insult taken. As someone below said, it was written in the earlier days of fandom and was one of the few Harry/Draco stories I enjoyed. On the other hand, characterisation or the lack thereof has never bothered me. I read fanfiction for the stories and I accept "bad writing" as part and parcel of the fanfiction territory.

Besides, Find & Replace works really well on my computer. ;-)
