The image of the author red-facedly shaking his fist and yelling "that's not what I meant!!!" delights me.

They're far more likely to be rolling their eyes and thinking you're stupid, but y'know, you do you.

I...don't know why you think I'd care if the author rolled their eyes? Especially if the author was blatantly dismissive or thoughtless or lazy or racist and their writing was full of plotholes or something, why not? It's a whole lot of fun, as long as the fans don't take themselves too seriously about it. I mean, okay, saying "this obvious villain is actually a poor woobie" is one thing, but saying "Hercule Poirot is cool and not an annoying creep even if Agatha Christie thinks he is" is another IMO.

Also my hatred for the phrase "you do you" is bottomless. Where the fuck did that fucking phrase originate...
