For god's sake, stop tip-toeing around it! Stop with the polite hints; corner them and be like "All right, here's the deal, we're going to set up a chore chart and we're going to follow it, because we all need to pitch in to keep this place clean."

Being direct is the only way to get through to people that have gotten into a routine where you do all their work for them. As is, you're letting them, and they probably have zero idea that it genuinely bothers you, so the petty nonsense is just going to pile up until you explode and then you're definitely gonna be the bad guy. Because, from their viewpoint, things were fine until you suddenly blew up at them one day.
