Stupid nitpick, and not related to the secret itself, but I don't think retconned is the word you want? Unless you mean a canon event that was mentioned in the fic, and THAT was later retconned. The wording of "a retconned fic" is throwing me off.

Maybe the author went back and changed something and the original version is not available anywhere? That was my first thought, an any rate, but yeah, jossed by subsequent developments on the show is probably more likely what OP was going for.
