Depends, I think. I mostly only like canon platonic->romantic when the friendship is missing something, like if the friendship isn't as close as it could be, or there's a professional conflict of interest or an identity conflict or a trust issue or other relationships to consider. When the only thing at stake in the switch from platonic to romantic is whether the characters start to have sex or not, it's boring as fuck and I think it should have stayed platonic. Because seriously, just that alone is not an interesting or meaningful "character development" at all.
