It's Salem, Folks

(Anonymous) 2015-05-17 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
For everyone asking, this is from Salem, and the two pictured are Cotton Mather and Anne Hale. Not OP, but I'm totally shipping it too. And I find it amazing that this show would go there in the whole love-spell thing. I just really hope it doesn't escalate to The Craft Boyfriend levels. The saddest part about that spell is it actually seems to be good for Cotton. It's gotten him out of his pity party and given him life again. Of course, there's a new episode tonight, so who knows how long that will last. It's such a shame that the fact that a spell brought them together will probably tear them apart. If Anne hadn't been so badly crunched for time and knew how to break through Cotton's self-imposed misery, they'd make a great couple with no help needed. She even kind of looks like Gloriana, so you know she's his type.

Honestly for a few episodes I was holding out hope for hilarious scenes of Cotton, Anne and Alden trying to figure out how to use her powers for good. I bet Cotton would find that fascinating.

I hate to burst your bubble on the age kink thing, but Cotton Mather was historically a wunderkind, and I don't think he's supposed to be out of his twenties. Meanwhile, while Anne is obviously young, Puritan girls often didn't marry until their early twenties. I would hazard a guess at the characters having more or less the same age difference as their actors, which is five years. So I'm thinking she's 18 to his 25, maybe. Both could be older.

As for the priest kink, I'm a Jew so I don't really get it, but more power to you, OP! Although aren't protestant Reverends allowed and encouraged to marry? Well, at the very least Cotton will probably always have that weirdo thing of reciting bible verses during sex!

Cotton Mather was married three times, had fifteen children, and given that he seems to have regarded Catholicism as very close to witchcraft would not have thanked anyone for calling him a priest, but never mind...
