Sometimes intrusive thoughts can occur just because of stressful circumstances or sudden life changes. Unwanted thoughts of this nature happen to everyone at one point or another in their lifetimes.

Other times it's common for people to fall into patterns of thinking these sorts of thoughts for no real reason, and continue to have them because they dwell on them too much. It's understandably worrying to be having those kinds of thoughts, but worrying about them only tends to increase the chance of thinking about it again. Usually the thoughts stop of their own accord once the individual stops paying attention to them.

However, there are some individuals for which intrusive thoughts related to suicide (or violent fantasies) are a symptom of some of the rarer forms of OCD.

For now I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just continue to dismiss the thoughts as normal, and try not to ruminate too much on them. If this continues to be a problem or the thoughts become more frequent, I would suggest seeing a psychiatrist that specializes in OCD treatment.
