Will they just keep saying "your cousin" forever then? With no actual direct reference?

No, I think Superman will be referenced in Supergirl. From the trailer, it looked like he's the one who ends up taking her to the Danvers. He just won't be directly shown. More...see from a distance, edge of a cape, type thing.

But I don't think it's in the same universe as the movies though. Different Jimmy Olsen for one thing.

that's exacty how you don't reference somebody though. Don't see them, don't call them by their name...

This looks okay but I'm going to be eyerolling a lot if the whole show's gonna be like that.

Well...I mean, I think they'll call him by name? I mean, I think you will hear people talking about Superman? He definitely exists. In the trailer, Kara's cape is a gift from him, via Jimmy. You're just not going to see him directly.

But that's enough info for me to think they are in the same verse, definitely.

I don't think so. I think Supergirl is its own separate universe. It's definitely not in the same universe as the movies, and although Berlanti would like it to be in the same universe as his other DC shows (Arrow/Flash/LoT), it sounds like CBS is not big on the idea. So for now it's kind of on its own.

I don't know anything about these verses specifically, so I can't say, but from the outside if there's one verse and it directly references a character known to be in another, I'd assume they were the same verse with the absence of other evidence.
