Re: I did warn you . . .
(Anonymous) 2015-05-18 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)I mean the show and the book have had plenty of uncomfortable rape scenes before, I understand for a lot of people this is the last straw but for me I just kind of got to the point where I deal with it. I'm not happy about it but I like other parts of the series.
I was actually happy they didn't show much and cut away to Theon. I think if it had been more graphic I would have been unable to stomach it, but not seeing it helps me deal.
Re: I did warn you . . .
(Anonymous) 2015-05-18 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)It didn't bother me in the slightest because like you said, you could see it coming, it was still toned down like fuck from the books, and lbr we have no idea yet what the repercussions of that scene will be thanks to the changes they're making to Sansa's storyline anyway. I'm okay with waiting to see how it plays out, but I do get why it bothers people for several reasons.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 12:05 am (UTC)(link)If I'm being honest, the sheer discrepancy between how main cast members (male and female, although it crops up exponentially more often where the women are concerned) are treated re: nudity vs. how the disposable extras are bothers me far more about GoT-the-show than any of the storylines do.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 12:35 am (UTC)(link)Sorry, I thought my comment was pretty clear but maybe not.
I have no issue with disposable extras. I have the issue with the fact they're expected to basically stuff a camera up their vag while Emilia Clarke and Iwan Rheon et al. get sheets and strategically placed furniture.
It's the double standards of "big name star, no need to get the tits/dick out!" that bothers me, not the disposable part.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 12:16 am (UTC)(link)And I do get why it bothers people, I was more reacting to people being "shocked" about it. I do not enjoy rape in media if I'm honest, I can handle it sometimes and part of the reason Sansa's scene wasn't even that bad to me was because I had time to mentally prepare for it.
But I'm probably going to wait and see how it plays out too.
Re: I did warn you . . .
(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 12:41 am (UTC)(link)Oh, very much so. I still hold out some hope that this storyline will do something for both Sansa and Theon's characters, so like I said, while I get their point, character development for either is okay by me, even at the expense of the other (I suppose the argument is that a lot of other people's character development has been at the expense of Sansa's in the show).
Agreed, even if you had no knowledge of the books at all, there was some pretty obvious signposting for that scene if someone understandably wanted to nope the hell away from it. And given how it could have been played out, or how necessary vs. needless you think it was at all, it was done reasonably tastefully.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 03:33 am (UTC)(link)Re: I did warn you . . .
I'm kind of with you on this. A bunch of other articles talked about how it was terrible because it made the focus on Theon's manpain instead of Sansa, but I saw that shot as a keeping the rape from being explicitly shown?
Don't get me wrong, I still hate the scene in general, but that part I'm not really up in arms about.Re: I did warn you . . .
(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 12:12 am (UTC)(link)It was still horrible but I don't have to deal with real images burned into my brain forever.
Re: I did warn you . . .
At least the way they shot it, I can just pretend that they never even had the actors disrobe or anything. That Iwan and Sophie just sat next to each other and made noises and then got cake together afterwards.
