Reader Insert, Second Person POV fic

(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
So, I'm op of that WWE secret the other day in which Randy Orton was my Master and I his pet. Some people said they'd actually be interested in reading a fic like what I'd described (master/pet play, gangbangs, aftercare, etc.) So, I started writing it. I've written several thousand words in second person, as a reader insert type story. But, now I'm reconsidering.

So, I'm curious. When you read AU kink fic like this starring, what is essentially a reader insert, do you mind second person POV and the use of "You," or do you prefer the author to do another POV and create an OC?

(I've never written fic like this before!)

I think either of those is definitely better than {Y/N}. So, whatever you do, don't do that. Between the two alternatives, I would say that second person POV is preferable to using an OC.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out what Y/N meant when I started seeing those reader insert "imagine" posts on tumblr. I mean, it seems obvious, but it wasn't to me for whatever reason, lol. So, I am definitely not doing that. That's almost like using a third person POV, except instead of the character name its "your name," and, yeah, I don't like that at all.

I'm actually a fan of second person POV overall, even in other fandoms and non-reader insert, but I'm not sure what people like in their kink, is all.

I disagree. Second Person POV is awkward and clunky unless done in the hands of a very skilled author. I mean I know fandom has a huge aversion to OCs but in this case using an OC is probably better than second person.

There are ways to make the OC easy to step into the shoes of without using second person.

Can you reccomend some second person POV fic that you feel is good? Just so I can get an idea what you find NOT awkward and clunky?

I usually find most second person POV fic to be compelling and usually not awkward unless the writer is just terribly unskilled. I don't consider myself to be a "very skilled author" by any stretch, but I can't say that what I've got down so far too terribly awkward. (Clunky is another story, as I tend to be rather clunky sometimes regardless of the POV.)

Well the only one I can think of that isn't bad for being Second person has other issues (characterization issues mainly)
