Too bad. It's secretly an epic fantasy with magic and all, and always has been. Those are the important things in the series and always will be.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not even how GRRM would describe it.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Not yet, maybe.

Give it some more time.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I feel you, OP. I like the intrigue and plotting more than the whole Others north of the Wall plot.

I think there's a nice balance between fantasy and politics in this series, which is why I like it so much.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
so good you said it twice?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
it's like poetry, it rhymes

"hopefully it'll work"

-the OP

Why did you say it twice?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. I usually love epic fantasy, so the dragons and the zombies should be right up my alley, but somehow I don't give a damn. I'm only interested in the politics and the intrigue and of course the characters.

I'm also a lot more interested in what will happen politically and socially after the whole White Walker thing is dealt with (one way or another, I'm assuming that some people will be left) than in who deals how with the White Walkers.

Same.

When I first got into it, it was the fantasy elements and the looming threat of that that had me most intrigued.

When Winter's apparently been coming for about sixty billion years, though, your interest definitely starts to shift to the less fantastical but much more intriguing interpersonal and sociopolitical stuff.

Unrelated, but all I could think of when I noticed you pasted your secret twice is that scene from Zoolander when he's lashing out at the reporter.

I am completely with you, OP. I really couldn't care less about the Wall and I dread the book's worth of plot that it's going to take to deal with the crap up there (unless Dany and her dragons fly in and just burn everything, which I would totally support!).

But everything in King's Landing is great and I would be happy with books that were just about it.
