Eurovision

First semi-final was today. I couldn't catch it, but I've checked out all the songs on youtube and is it just me or is there just ton of songs with belting women? They get really boring and same-y after a while. Also more duets than usually.

I really dug Estonia's song, and I'm glad they made it to the finale.

Anyone else with thoughts? Predictions on winners? Disappointments?

Yeah, everything's super mid-range-y this year, from what I've listened to (haven't listened to all the songs yet).

I remember liking Serbia's. It's also very belt-y, but I feel like the singer is just better at belting. Haven't listened to them all yet, though.

I liked the second part of Serbia's song, when it got a bit techno. Not all belting/mid-range songs are bad (I liked Slovenia's as well), but I feel it's hard to make yourself stand out when all the songs are like that.

Which act is the insane one this year? is it good insane (Conchite, Lordi, etc) or bad insane (The UK's airline pilots, My Little Horse, etc)?

I'm still catching up. I'm so excited I'm going to my first real Eurovision party Friday! Normally it's just a couple of mates and wine in front of the TV.

I'm a Finn and I knew we weren't gonna make it. All the newspapers are already talking about "bitter disappointment" and I'm like, we've won once, what you thought would happen? It's a shame in a sense that at least it sounded different, and I always approve of rock/punk/metal on Eurovision. I think Finnish sounds a bit too monotone as a language to non-speakers, so we gain more approval when we sing in English. And dress up in monster costumes.

Oh wow, a party, that sounds nice. I'm gonna be watching alone I think, unless I get suddenly invited somewhere. But I have a Swedish friend on Skype I talk to, so it's not techically alone.

I was hoping it'd make it through so I could hear it again. I'm not sure who my top pick is just yet. I make lists as countries perform XD

It's also a friends going away party so it kind of became a big thing otherwise prob would be at home. I'll definitely be alone on the grand final cause it's a work night.

I'm really hoping Australia does well. I don't want us to win, but I also don't want to be embarrassed XD

So I liked a good half and was disinterested in the other half which is alright. My tops were Moldova, Russia, Belarus, and Finland.

I found Denmark oddly endearing.

But nothing screamed "love me!" But that might be because I'm at work so less enthusiasm than usual.
