I don't have a smartphone. And while I want to get one, it's more for the phone itself than for the ability to use the internet anywhere. Data is not an important item on my budget. People say "oh it's cheap, you can get a plan for $50 a month!" and I'm like "that's about $30 more than I ever want to spend on a phone plan." And while I'm not rich (I have a lot of debt, which sadly is typical for my demographic), it's not like I can't spend money on anything - I definitely spend money on stuff I want. But a data plan is faaaar down on that list. The only real benefit I can think of is being able to participate in F!S during dinner at work, but I think my workplace has wifi, so I wouldn't even need data for that.
