Okay, here's a risky thread. Let's try to not get shut down in five posts.

Put aside our differences. What about your own 'faction' in all this do you not agree with? Difficulty: Don't eat each other alive. Just vent, just chill. Like a Christmas truce.

I'm pretty anti-GG, the reasons are at the moment not the point. But I'll give ya this one: I've REALLY come to dislike Brianna Wu and her open hostility to everyone. Friend, foe, doesn't matter, she'll get on you with the rough side of her tongue. She's argumentative and destructive, derailing, can't take a single criticism without lashing out in a completely disproportionate way, and while I appreciate her loyalty to those she herself calls her friends, sometimes she's really backing the wrong horse there.

Some of those friends are total assholes.

Anyway, she's part of why I don't really 'faction' up anymore. As any sort of figurehead for being against GG, god, anyone else. And you can't calmly criticize her in a forum where she hangs out, because it's the same insipid circlejerking defense of her that the 'faction' claims to despise on the other side of the fence.

Nah. GGers are trying very hard to be relevant and are obsessed with being taken seriously, but they're old news. People only really bring them up now because they're a pretty good recent example of fringe weirdos.

Yes, but mostly it's the momentum of people who really hate them that's keeping it going.

Every time someone talks about how they're a hate movement and not concerned with ethics at all it gives them a reason to hang about and rant about how people calling them on their bullshit is totally the same as rape.

I'm not anti-GG, I'm anti-misogyny/anti-bullshit/anti-screaming entitled meatheads, which I was long before this thing blew up. Gamergate is just the latest iteration of this nonsense and as a singular movement they're not even news anymore, they're just the new chemtrails people.

I still don't understand either side or the cause or what's really going on and all the summaries are too long. It's probably something I do care about but I'm just so lost on the actual context I've given up.

Also some friends put gamergate on my fridge scrabble.

I try avoiding people who actively identify as either faction because they're probably obsessive weirdos. I generally care more about what people involved do/are for than what they identify, so some AGGer whose for better representation of women and makes active steps to support women in games or w/e is cool by my. Likewise some GGer who tired of the white hipster domination of social issues online is probably cool by me to too. People who default to tired strawmen or "it's about ethics in journalism" annoy me to no end. Or get upset about people responding to their public posts lmao.

I really dislike most of the figureheads for the AGG side though, so I'm probably more Pro-GG though.

I eventually realized both sides talking heads had become so insane it was time to get out.

I mean, knowing who's paying who to write articles in gaming journalism seems like a sensible enough thing to want (though it's not like every other entertainment medium hasn't been doing the same goddamn thing since forever), but it wasn't about that in any conceivable way (and some would argue it never was, but it definitely wasn't by the time I got out)

When this stuff was first going on I was pretty firmly in the anti-GG camp and pretty vocal about it on my Tumblr. Now I simply don't care. Tumblr has exhausted me on this type of stuff. People on my Dash talked about it for months and it got really muddled for me. Also a few of my male friends in real life were supportive of GG which made it really exhausting because I had to deal with them as well as people online and they always wanted to argue with me. So I kind of decided to stop reading or talking about GG because it was becoming a chore to think about. I have no idea idea what's going on with GG now to be honest.

I also don't really follow what Brianna Wu or Anita Sarkeesian are doing anymore. So I really can't give my impression on them recently. I was super disappointed in Anita's videogame videos and stopped watching them. Also her interview with Colbert was disappointing to me. Brianna can come across pretty rough which can be off putting sometimes. I think also I'm just burnt out on feminist discussions in general having spent five years talking about feminist issues all the time. I have no energy for it anymore.

I don't really care and stopped keeping up after and GG friend went full on fanatical me. But it's still disgusting how a lot of my women friends threw other women under that gamer gate bus so damn fast.

I just really really hate the whole you are either pro gamergate or anti gamergate. It's like if the westbro Baptist Church said: o so you are against us, the kkk is also against us therefore the anti westbro Baptist movement is toxic.Why do you support a movement with the kkk in it?
