Which critics do you like? Do you tend to agree with them or not?

I used to look forward to Roger Ebert's reviews. because we seemed to have similar tastes in film.

He is much missed. I got to meet him and he was a really cool, smart, friendly guy.

I've been going to Roger Ebert's old site. I feel like the new reviewers have done a pretty good job of taking the same approach to movies, highbrow yet easy to understand, and willing to acknowledge what's good about popcorn movies.

I like the nerdier reviewers because they usually have similar movie tastes to mine. The /Filmcast and Filmspotting podcasts are ones I listen to. I agree more with the first on most movies.

None really, but I have a couple of friends who review films professionally and they tend to have the ability to change their review based on what they know about you, so I listen to them.

But the amount of time spent each week talking about films in big serious words kinda puts me off any kind of professional reviewing. I tend to know which genre I will enjoy so I just try it out. Or alternatively someone tells me I should watch it and I do, or I read about the plot and if it seems interesting I will watch it.

Red Letter Media's movie/game reviews are the only ones I watch. I don't always agree with them, but their reviews are fun to watch regardless.

I watch Jeremy Jahns, Schmoes Know, Chris Stuckmann, and AMC Movie Talk. They're all pretty much the same. I don't know that I agree with them but I find them to be entertaining for the most part.

The critic I like most for movies is Eileen Jones. Unfortunately, she hardly writes at all, but she's both completely right on about what makes a movie good (in my opinion), and also really good at communicating that and articulating how movies function or don't function.

I also think Wesley Morris is pretty good. And I watch Red Letter Media reviews, because they're entertaining, and usually make some basically good points, but I don't think I'd necessarily enjoy watching a movie made on the basis of their film sensibility.

Zero Punctuation's Yahtzee -- Ben Croshaw

I adore his reviews. Even when he's shitting on something I love (all things Nintendo) at least he does so entertainingly.

Plus he's the reason I got interested in a game I would have otherwise never looked twice at. For which he has my gratitude.

I really love Anthony Lane at the New Yorker (although he's reviewing less and less mainstream movie, and I cannot stand David Denby). Even if I don't agree with him, I think he's hilarious.

I ignore critics. I tend to like everything and I don't want other people's opinions ruining it for me.

Not many since I tend to hear recs on podcasts when a movie is brought up (eg: Super Best Friends Cast gets me interested, particularly Woolie). Growing up and reading newspaper entertainment sections I gave a fuck when one of the younger editors would review movies and games, because he was candid and told me what I wanted to know. He's dead now :( But hey, I think I still have some of his reviews clipped in a book somewhere, because there was something wrong or right with me as a kid idolising a cool editor.
